I was just wondering if my anti-ds could be making me a little tender down below? I was on meds previously and found it painful when having sex and although i've only been on meds again for a short time i feel tender yet again. I cant really say its sore but just uncomfortable. Is that normal or is there something else wrong?
Thanx Sarah x

I am afraid, I do not know the answer to this one. I am guessing that when you came off the antids last time that things settled down. The only thing I can suggest is to maybe talk to your gp or gynae if you have one. Mind you saying that I am the worlds worst for discussing anything ¨down below¨ Hope you get on okay. Chica

It wasnt that I was dry or anything, its not like that kind of feeling, its just a bit achy thats all. Like period cramps. Not just during sex either, kind of randomly. Might just ask the gp. Thanks for the help anyway x

I am sorry that we have not been any help. I have never before heard of 'meds' having this side effect - but this does not mean they do not as maybe this is something that women on medication for PNI do not talk about or share even here?
What 'meds; were you on when it happened before and what 'meds' are you on now? I have a doctor - a GP - who helps out with advice so I could ask about the meds you are taking and this symptom?
I have had pain when my partner/husband went 'deep' but nothing like you describe ..
So if as you say it is happening
'Not just during sex' and it is like 'period cramps'
I think it would be a good idea to ask your GP - is this happening only since the birth?
keep us informed if you want to as it could help another
Sorry i can not be of more help

Hi,
Thanks for trying to help. I'm on Sertraline, and that was what I was on the time before. U asked if this was only since the birth, and yes I'd say so but its not happened untill recently and the last time I was on meds. Its maybe just a concidence thats all. But I just fell kind of tender. Not just during sex like I said although its not sore just a little fragile feeling. I keep getting a really odd feeling in my lower abdomen, its like I'm kind of blown up feelin too. Maybe I'm just getting fat!
Thanks for trying to help all of you

Hi Sarah
Just following up
have you looked into this further or done anything further about it? have you been to your doctor? I asked the doctor who offeres us medical information to the site and he said he had not heard of any anti D having this effect but this does not mean anything and the proof would be to change your anti Ds you are taking and if it is still the same - then if can not be that.
He suggested that your GP might recommend trying a completely different type of Anti D. Sertraline, is a SSRI - Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, which is a fairly new Anti D and some people are sensitive to these SSRIs.
While there is no side effect noted such as vaginal pain/tenderness, abdominal pain has been noted and also 'sexual dysfunction. Who knows if what has been reported as sexual dysfunction also includes pain and tenderness? As when people report side effects if it involved genitals they may not express it clearly.
The possible side effects of sertraline and other SSRIs are quite extensive but please do not be put off taking them if I list them as few get all or theses or even any of them.
We have a membership of the British National Formulary web site and I checked in the members area but all these side effects should be listed in the leaflet thats comes with your prescription although they may be put in less medical words:
SSRIs are less sedating and have fewer antimuscarinic and cardiotoxic effects than tricyclic antidepressants (section 4.3). Side-effects of the SSRIs include gastro-intestinal effects (dose–related and fairly common—include nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation), anorexia with weight loss (increased appetite and weight gain also reported) and hypersensitivity reactions including rash (consider discontinuation—may be sign of impending serious systemic reaction, possibly associated with vasculitis), urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, arthralgia, myalgia and photosensitivity; other side-effects include dry mouth, nervousness, anxiety, headache, insomnia, tremor, dizziness, asthenia, hallucinations, drowsiness, convulsions (see Cautions above), galactorrhoea, sexual dysfunction, urinary retention, sweating, hypomania or mania (see Cautions above), movement disorders and dyskinesias, visual disturbances, hyponatraemia (may be due to inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion—see CSM warning, section 4.3), and bleeding disorders including ecchymoses and purpura
Don't take a lot of notice of these side effects as if you were to have any of the more serious ones beyond gastro-intestinal effects, you would have had them by now, I just included them to show that vaginal tenderness is not included
The other types of Anti ds that could be tried are trycylics .
But your GP would be the best person to advise you, i have only included this for information and it can actually be found on your drug leaflet or on the Internet anyway although I asked a doctor and used a guaranteed accurate site that doctors themselves use
Anyway has anything changed or have you seen your GP about this?
All the best

Thanks Veritee
Well I am now off the meds again, they say its pregancy hormomes that caused my lapse, and I do hope they are right.
So in reality it could all be preganacy hormones, which means the pain too I guess. Seems crazy when you look back at it, its obvious I was pregnant. But I just never considered it. I just assumed it wasnt even a possibilty. Not to worry with regard to the pain tho, its not sore now. So thankyou for all your help
