I was really interested to read you post to sixfootblonde just now, where you say;

With me it went when I stopped the breast feeding - it would for a time come back at some times in the month when I was pre menstral but has stopped mostly now I am post menopausal.

My mother also suffered it as do quite a few women of childbearing age if they retain fluid for some reason and there is not a lot you can do besides an operation and as it comes and goes and will probably stop when you finish breastfeeding except for a couple of days a month - the operation is not really worth having

....as I have just been diagnosed with this - about a month ago. As you say above, it is not continuous at all, just sometimes (especilly at night)..

I'm interested to know if there is any link with my cycle - will look out for any patternsxx
It certainly doesn't seem bad enough for an operation yet (my friend has just had this, but she'd got to the point of really needing it).

Even then, I found it didn't help that much!

Hi re carpel tunnel syndrome

it was really bothersome from about 4 months pregnant until i stopped breast feeding, at first it was a mild tingling but as I retained more water it got worse

- for a while I could not pick small things up, I wore special splints at night as without I could not sleep , it was so painful, my hands went numb or tingled and pins and needles when holding the steering wheel so had to take each hand off in turn and shake them down as low as I could, I could not even sew and all that knitting of baby clothes I had planed was impossible........ I was even offered the operation which I decided to wait a bit longer and see

After I stopped breastfeeding - but this could have been coincidence it just could have been my water retention getting back to normal since the PG anyway -

The CTS got better and yes, you are right i got a return of it only around the middle of my cycle I think , I can not remember now exactly when as it was a while ago my periods stopped.

17 years later I still have slight CTS, it never really went completely.

Now since menopause it has pretty much gone altogether, I get a slight tingling sometimes and my hands get a bit clumsy and I hit the wrong keys when I type, made worse when I type a lot - they have been this way for a few days at the moment

But its nothing to worry about and certainly does not warrant the op

these are the many joys they don't tell you about when you're pregnant!!!!

I mean CTS and restless legs are very common when you are pregnant and for a time after - yet who tells you about these?

Does CTS always affect both hands or can it affect just one?
