I have been told I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following a stressful pregnancy and traumatic birth of my third child 6 months ago. Physical symptoms started when I was admitted to hospital with pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks pregnant. Many of them continued after the birth and some are still with me now. They include dizziness and lightheadedness, brain fog, darkening or misting of sight and extreme tiredness. Has any one else had similar experiences?

hello julia i too have the same symptoms as you describe i think thats all part of the illness although i have pnd and have done now for the past 2 months and it has been real bad and very scary...i am now on medication to get me better again and my gp gave me some thing also to help with the dizziness and it works real well...i still get very bad days where things are a fog and i feel confussed still but i just go with the flow now and they seem to b less scary then they use to be. i hope you feel better soon as i have a long way to go still myself but what with sites like this one i can make it through another day knowing i am not mad and its not my fault. love joanne

Thank you so much for replying Joanne. Part of the problem is that I start to think I'm the only one and that something sinister is happening. For weeks I thought I'd had a stroke and when I spoke to my GP she just laughed at me. I've since changed doctors and my new one told me that a stroke during pre-eclampsia was a possibility although she doesn't think it has happened in my case, so I could have been right - my first doctor has caused me a lot of problems by telling me that it wasn't PND and, more or less, that I should get a life. I have now been assessed and have been told I have mild depression caused by trauma, however I know that if I had been assessed a few months ago I would have scored very high, but it all went unnoticed because my doctor refused to believe me.

My physical symptoms have being varied, headaches, back and body ache, shooting pains down my breasts I have being told they are my hormones and become more apparent when I am stressed or become anxious. The knotted stomach and the feeling to throw up. I would like to know if you have experienced any of these.
Thanks Alexis

Hi Alexis
I have experienced most but not all of the symptoms that you described. Mine were all anxiety based which was later confirmed as post natal depression. I had numerous stress headaches, major knots in the stomach which made eating very difficult, and general discomfort in my body and feeling of being wound up like a spinning top and unable to relax. How's your overall emotional wellbeing now? Would be interested to know how you have been since your post in October.
Cheers Wendy
