hello ladies
i was just wondering whether any of you have noticed a relationship between stopping breastfeeding and recovery.
i know veritee has said she stopping feeding her daughter caja at 3 years and i noticed that this is also the time when she says she began feeling better again. its just made me think as i am now decreasing my daughters feeds to 2/3 a day and i dont know whether its coincidence but im feeling much better.
just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences or whether it is all in my imagination?!

Hi Gail,
I just had to reply to this thread as it really struck a chord with me!! I breastfed my daughter (baby 2) until she was 14months old, this wasn't through choice though (she is lactose intolerant and wouldn't take formula) and i have to say that as soon as i stopped feeding her i felt relief and as though i could get my life back, god that sounds awful doesn't it!! also with baby no.3 i decided to stop feeding after 7 weeks so i could go on anti-d's and i immediately felt better. I felt less tired, cos i could share the night feeds (and all the other feeds) i felt less tied to the baby, i felt i had more freedom and generally felt better in myself.
I've often wondered about this too?!

hi sarahjay, its strange isnt it? im SURE there must be a connection, whether it is physical, hormonal ir psychological and i remember that at around the time i started feeling ill (30 weeks of pregnancy) my milk 'came in' and i was leaking all over the place! crying too. a also, now dylan is sharing feeding as tlws is eating solids - im hoping to wean her by the time shes one - i feel like i want my body back if you get what i mean! i completely understad where youre coming from when you say you want your life back i really do gail xxx

Hi Gail,
Yeah i think there must be a connection too. Maybe it is the hormones that are stimulated when your milk comes in, i wonder if there has ever been any studies on this link?? (i'm sure there must be eh?)
Although i loved breastfeeding and totally support anyone who decides to give it a try, i think there are downfalls too. It is sooooo restraining and it definately puts pressure on new mums.
Anyway i could chat about this subject all day, I don't know if i've mentioned before but i've trained as a breastfeeding support counsellor and would love for more women to breastfeed or at least give it a try. There needs to be so much more awareness out there (like pni too). Anyway am babbling now! lol
Well done to you for continuing this long.

hello, i stopped feeding at 3 weeks but even now that my baby is 9 months my breast are still producing milk!!! i am positive that it is a relationship between producing milk and the tiredness. before i had my baby i had a marina coil put in (one where you dont have periods) and after a year i started to produce milk instead of having my period!!! strange but true, with that coil i experienced many of the same symptoms i have with pni, after the coil was taken out i got better very quickly.... unfortunatly this time it's not so simple!!! but i defo think that it is hormone related. x
