I will not be around for a while

Dear All

Tomorrow I am going into hospital to have quite a large operation (4 hours) on my leg where they re-break my leg, pin it and fuse it to my ankle.

I have been waiting for this operation on the NHS for quite some time now and the idea is to lessen the pain and get me more mobile since the horse riding accident I had in 2003 which disabled me and left me in pain and not able to walk far.

I will not be in the hospital for that long, perhaps 3 days to a week as they chuck you out these days as soon as they can if you have someone home 24 hours to look after you

( this onerous task falls to Barry who, as I will be in a wheelchair for several months, will have to do everything for me plus all the housework careing for Caja etc and for the first week or so absolutely everything including bedpans etc - poor Barry, I weigh 12 stone he only 10 so you can see the difficulty!! but he's a strong lad, just weighs this as unlike me he is very fit and slim for his age , so he should manage)

But I do not know when I will be able to get back on the forum. I will not be able to sit at my PC for some weeks as I have to keep the leg which will be in plaster elevated - but I do have an old laptop that will get me on line form my bed - it only depends on when I feel up to going on line.

When I had my last operation on the leg I felt too unwell for at least 3 months but that time I had a bone infection - all being well this will not happen this time ? and hopefully I will be back on in a week or too.

Anyway I am not writing this for support or anything I just needed people to know that I just will not be around for a while.

But this should not matter at all.

We have a great team of moderators and forum advisor's who have access to the forum to do all the things I can and I shall also give them these powers today for the chat room.

One person is not important on here as this is our forum not mine and we run it as a team these days - so I am sure everything in the meantime will be absolutely fine.

If anyone has any queries - please contact a moderator or forum adviser

I am sure that I will not be the only one thinking of Verity, Barry and Caja over these next few days.

When I had the pleasure of meeting them a few months ago I could not help but be dazzled by the genuine care and compassion that Verity has for all of us who have needed this forum and continue to do so. Plus the support her family give her to do it.

Verity, our thoughts, prayers and love are with you for your op and we all wish you a very speedy recovery - and have a REST!!!!!

We all look forward to your return when you are ready.

Dear All

Thank you so much for your support.

I am back from the hospital and now have a half plaster on my leg as I can not have a full plaster until my wounds are healed. This means that the leg is very vulnerable as it has been re-broken and pinned but is not yet supported by a full cast so I literally can not move much from my bed in fear i knock it of fall on it - I do feel quite scared of this but this9s aspect should improve when I get a full cast on the 31st.

But the real problem is that I do not feel very well at all and I do not understand why?

I am not really back on the forum yet as I feel quite ill but rfom now on I am going to try to get on for at least half and hour every day.

I do have laptop to use so access to a PC is not the problem but for some reason I really can not concentrate and go dizzy and sick when I try - sorry

But I'll try to get back to normal soon but bare will me in the meantime and I'll try to answer some posts.

Hi everyone

I feel a bit better today - not so dizzy and i am propped up with my leg up in front of the PC for a little while. Yesterday I felt hot and sick all day so did little

I just got the cards etc you all sent me - it made me cry and Barry said it was so nice of you all.

Awe shucks I am quite embarrished..

Natalie - how did you sign it from Aus??

Medical Report:

Anyway while it will be some time before I can get around I am feeling better in myself., but it will be longer than I thought before I can come on here as I did before

As fed up as the stage when I have no proper cast on and therefore can not risk doing anything for fear i fall and damage the surgery should only last 14 days and I have done about 7 days now...

But my appointment to have my stitches out and a full cast put on is not until the 31st so I rang to find out why it was not 2 weeks after surgery as planned .

My consultant is on holiday so while it is supposed to be 2 weeks he can not see me before this.

I do not begrudge his holiday at all but i wish someone else could take out my stitches and put on the cast as I have to spend an extra week in fear of doing anything lest I damage what has been done , and I could not bare to have another op just yet so I dare not hardly move from my bed until I have a fully cast to protect my leg.

Oh well I guess I will get through it although it will be longer than I planned for before I can look after myself a bit.
A bit hard on Bary though as he has to do everything even help me wash

but at least I am feeling better and able to come on here a bit.

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better in yourself - frustrating times ahead, it'll pass quicker than you realise I'm sure - will be better when you get your stitches out and cast on (in some ways) though won't it? Hope that gets sorted soon x
