Worried about going on anti-depressants

I think I am going to do to the doctors but I am worried about what he will prescribe for me. Will I become dependent on these drugs and never beable to come off them? I need to do something though because I do not want to carry on like this - always down and miserable.

Hi Olivia,

I understand how concerned you are about going on medication, it can seem like such a big decision, especially right now when breakfast seems like a big decision! I know many women on this site have been on medication, and many of them are fully recovered now and off their meds. I have never been on any medication, due to other medical reasons but I found counselling very helpful and supportive, also I confided in family and friends and of course the women on this site. I would suggest you do go to the doctors and tell them honestly how you have been feeling, or maybe your health visitor if you have a good one.

I remember telling my health visitor that I thought my kids deserved more than the way their life was with me, she said that I too deserved more than the way my life was, you deserve to be happy and healthy

Talking about this is i feel such a good healer,since joining this forum i have felt a little clearer and it makes me feel better knowing that i am not alone and others share the way i am feeling too.I agree that medication might not always be the answer.If you feel that by councilling you would feel a benifit then tell your doctor or h v that.I know that i personaly could never talk openly face to face with anyone at the best of times about my feelings but this site i can.I guess this is my form of councilling.Do make that first step and go to the docs, then take it from there. Remember just one step at a time, deal with the docs first then think about the next step.There are always options to our recovery.
