Hi,
I've had PNI since the birth of my 2nd child 15 months ago. I started taking cipralex in the summer but it didn't do much so I switched to Prozac about 6 weeks ago - ititially 20mg and now 49mg, which is helping a bit. However, since I went onto prozac I've been sleeping really badly - awake sometimes as early as 2am -and I'm totally knackered. Is this common and is there anything I can take to help or do I need tp find a different medication?
thanks
Rach

Hi ringingrach
Welcome to the site. I too had PNI with my second child. Hope you find support here.
I'm afraid I don't know much about Prozac, but I'm sure someone here will be able to share experiences with you.
Please feel free to post about anything, any time. We're here listening if you need us.
Take care Hopefulx

Hello Rach
I have been prescribed Prozac today and my GP did say that it can make you excitable and keep you awake, he recommended taking it first thing in a morning so it has worn off a bit at night. Hope this helps? Can you tell me anything about it as I am starting it today, like how long it takes to work, any side effects etc?
Thanks
JDM

Hi Rach,I took prozac for 3 weeks and had to come off it because it really mucked my sleep around.Recently i bit the bullet and asked for another try at anti-ds and have been taking an old anti-d called Gaminil that does have sleep inducing properties.you should ask your Dr if there are other anti-ds you could take

When do you take your tablets?
It's hard enough with PNI let alone sleep deprivation! Poor you. Maybe try taking tabs first thing in the day if you can - if this continues (not sure how long you've been on 40mg prozac?) it's well worth having a word with the doc again. There are alternatives and ways round the side affects sometimes.

Have been taking Fluoxetine/Prozac 20mgs since August 05 and haven't had problems that I am aware of, as far as sleeping goes, until 3 weeks ago, but I put that down to having to organise my sons first birthday celebrations, which meant cleaning the house from top to bottom!!!! I have been totally manic cleaning at 4/5 a.m. I've been awake since 2.30 this morning but feel ok at the mo. At least I'm happy it makes a bloody change! I'm waiting for the crash and burn!!!!! Anyway have a good day maybe tap some more soon, Clare x
