Any experiences of Mirtazapine tablets?

Hi

I have just been given a weeks supply of Mirtazapine 15mg they are an antid which is suppose to help with sleep.
I think I have to increase the dose at some point.

It does not list much in the way of side effects only increased appitite and weight gain [which I could do without, as I have plenty of weight before I start!!].

Has anyone tried this at all, or got any experiences good or bad?

I was given those tablets, and they are correct about the weight gain. They increase your appetite so you want to eat all the time - you have no control over it! I put on 2 stone in 2 weeks which made me even more depressed until I insisted I wanted to try something else.

I am a bit horrified at the thought of putting on a lot more weight. I am already big and use to blame the old meds.

helenf - what did they give you next which slept you, sorted the depression, but did not make you hungry?

I have broken them in half at the moment as I can't wake in the mornings. I feel too drugged up to move.
I did not sleep as well, but was more alive this morning and was able to drive.

God I don't want to get dependant on these if they are going to make me bigger. I will have to chat this over with the gp.

sorry for the delay in replying.

My GP switched me to Sertraline, which helps with the depression but does not help me sleep. The thing is, I just cannot lose the weight I put on after taking the Mirtazapine. One Gp just told me to eat less - if only it was that simple - these tablets just increase your appetite to that of a small country! They also made me feel detached from everything (life and stuff), they were no good for me at all.

hi......i took mirtazapine but lost weight! however they made me feel really irritable and angry and anxious and i had to stop them. hope they work for you. i know 2 people who take these and theyve been a Godsend to them xxx
