hey ladies
id like some advice please - tlws, my daughter has just worked out how to pull herself up onto her feet! this is great and entertaining but shes had a few bumps.
she uses our coffee table to walk around, and it's a perfect height but no matter how well supervised she is etc, she can sometimes slip and bump herself which , as you can imagine is upsetting for us.
this happened last night while she was balancing on the railings of her cot, she slipped and bumped her head even though i was there watching her i couldnt stop it from happening.
i feel like a bad mother as i couldnt stop it this seems to be happening lots over the last couple of days - its quite bad as if she slips the thoughts are triggered with me and i feel as though its my fault and i wanted it to happen.

Hi Gail,
Please please try not to worry about this, it is a normal part of babies development and they almost have to do it so they can learn from it. If you protect them from everything they will never know danger and this would be far more dangerous in the long run than having a few bumps and bruises now. I'm sure tlws is having a great time figuring out how to do all these new things and i've always said babies literally bounce!! LOL. You are not a bad mum, in fact you are great for noticing and being worried about this, just keep watching and just enjoy the amazement of your daughter learning these new steps in life.

hunny its not your fault! and if you wanted it to happen you wouldnt have posted an "upset" message on here would you? now shes on the move theres plenty of thingsyou can do to reduce the chances of her hurting herself, although they do get the odd bump. does she have a bumper in her cot? also, you can get loads of stuff cheap from supermarkets-like rubber things that go on table corners, catches that go on doors and drawers to avoid trapped fingers, stairgates, socket caps etc. your health visitor can visit your home and do a safety check for you and advise you on what to get and where to get it. hope that helped a bit?
