Hi all, I'm looking for a bit of advice. Does anyone know anything about or have experienced a peri-anal abscess? My youngest has one, he first had one at about 5 weeks. Started off as what looked like a bump beside his anus, which promptly grew and eventually looked like a mini mole hill. Went to doc, they didn't know what it was, straight to hosp. They knew what it was and back for op next day, they finally after op said it was a gland which leads into this bum and has for some reason stopped draining correctly, hence the infection. They cut it open and said that was it, will heal quickly just keep it clean. About a month later it came up again, this time i think in a fractionally diff place, but as a yellow blister like spot. Back to doc but had since popped and was a hole left. Didn't give antibis as he was already ill and slightly dehydrated, gave me antibac cream. Hosp check up they said just leave it as about 40% heal on their own. Was about 6 days ago and he has since had it 3 times. Recurring every second day. when its filled he is in a great deal of pain, screams when u even try to touch his bum or put pressure on that area, even have to lay him on tummy just b4 it pops again. Am i being an overprotective mother or do you think this is just a little harsh to leave an 11wk old in pain for apparently 2 months, and most likely 6 months? They say it may need another op and cleaned out again so whats the point leaving him in pain. So far this thing has been coming up every 2 days! Any advice?

not advice as such but i think youve answered your own question. if you are in any doubt, and your baby is obviously suffering, get it checked out. keep pushing til you are satisfied. its our taxes that pay for health services, so you have every right to push for help for your baby.

Hi
Don't know anything about these absesses, only that it must be hard for you to see your little one in pain, and to be so uncomfortable. I should imagine your nerves to be a bit fraid around the edges, and you must be tired as your bubs is probably not sleeping too well.
Do go back for a chat to put your mind at rest. Its not fair for them to leave a little one like that. Especially when you talk about him being ill and dehydrated etc, as well as in pain.
I do hope it gets sorted soon, Jay xx

Definately take him back to the dr's. Its not fair that he should have to put up with this so demand they sort it out quicker. I find getting quite irate with dr's tends to get them to move a bit more swiftly!
Let us know how he gets on?
