Hi,
Does anyone know anything about being hyperactive. My HV and my mother have suggested that my 2yr old is hyperactive and I should be cutting out stuff in his diet. Like what? Do any of you know anything about it?

Yes, I can get you a list of all the additives to avoid that are known to cause hyperactivity hun..... I'll dig it out for you today or tomorrow. Scarlet X Added later This is an interesting list I found although not the one I was talking about from the HACSG. These additives have been shown to cause temper tantrums and disruptive behaviour in up to a quarter of toddlers. www.ukfoodguide.net/childrensfoodsanddrinks.htm

lol ;D Here's the site Sarah, if you go to the index of food additives on the side, eg. E100-E181 it states at the bottom of the additives list if the HACSG (Hyperactive Children`s Support Group) recommends to avoid it. www.foodreactions.org/allergy/additives/100.html

Its actually been in the news alot recently that many mothers have been campaigning to have these additives removed from food and to make them illegal. This has already been done in the states. Be interesting to see if that does happen!

Sarah hun,
My own son (now 10) had problems with listening and attention so I decided to cut back on the additives about 4 years ago. I do let him have sweets now and again though but I'm careful what I give him these days. I did a lot of research back then...

It did to a degree hun, perhaps start off by trying to eliminate some of the blue/sunset yellow food colourings if you can, and see if you notice a change.
My SIL whose son is now 30 also had a problem with attention/hyperactivity and she eliminated all additives way back then, and it made a huge difference, he was a changed kid overnight. Might not work for all kids, but definitely worth a try.

Seems to be worth a try anyway, thanks.
I reckon I'm going to try things like that frootshoots and such like and give him plain squash. Everywhere we go i'll just take a bottle of juice with us.

Hi,
Just wanted to say that Fruit Shoots contain additives, in particular phenylalanine (think I've spelt that right) which, I think, is the one that is addictive (like Pringles, once you pop you can't stop)
I tend to just give my lo water, milk or diluted fresh fruit juice
