Hello! My bub started nursery not long ago, just 3 sessions a week. She's been fine until this week when she's howled and bawled when I dropped her off. Is she yanking my chain or does she hate her nursery??? She is a good baby, well toddler really and never cries unless there is a good reason, she not a whinger by any means which makes me think that she really doesn't like it. I'm also not so keen on her key worker, just her attitude, nothing specific. I know she's well looked after there but I don't see the point in upsetting her (and me) thrice weekly when we are fortunate enough that we don't need nursery, it's purely for her social skills, I can work my job round hubby. What so you think girls? Am I just a neurotic mother? Was made to feel shit yesterday when I phoned to make sure she'd settled down ok, but surely that's my job as a responsible parent?!?!?!?!?!?!? xxx

Hi Caterina,
I don't think you are being neurotic, you are just being a normal caring MUM. I would give it a little bit longer to see if things settle. It might be an initial being left thing.
You might find that you will think about the key worker and her attitude, when I read this bit I could see that this will play on your mind. Ask some other Mums about her if its a problem.
Hope it settles down for you. Keep being a caring MUM, and check up on things when ever you feel YOU want to.
Jay xx

Hi Caterina
How old is she now? My little one is 17 months and for the past few weeks hs gone nuts when we have taken her to nursery, or if I have taken her to places like the library and tried to put her down to play etc. Apparently it is just a stage they all go through, usually because they want to stay with their mums. I would stick with it hun. I go to pick my little one up at night and she is buzzing after being horrible in the morning. I think it really is good for their social skills too.
Let us know what you decide x

Caterina,
Could be seperation anxiety hun, which most toddlers have at this age. Like Winegirl said, I would tend to persevere, especially since you are sending her to socialise. I was the same with my eldest, I sent him to the local school at two and a half because we live abroad and I didn't feel he was mixing with enough kids, plus his speech was delayed and I thought that mixing with other English speakers would help. He loved it though and was the total opposite, cried when he had to come home lololololol ;D
Nope you are not a neurotic mother, just a caring mum who wants the best for her kid.... God knows why you were made to feel like shit when you phoned the nursery, not bloody acceptable...Anyways just a thought, but is there something/someone she's not liking at the nursery. Perhaps one of the other kids, or maybe the key worker who you are not getting a good vibe from. Perhaps you can stop and observe for one session...would they allow this?
Let us know how you get on hun...
Hugs
Scarlet X

Hi Caterina, Have been through this Nursery business twice - and yes, both of mine went through a spell of doing this and I was v.protective and upset about it (esp. as 2nd time had PNI). I not only felt neurotic I think I was - but keep telling myself it was just because I cared. But as Scarlet describes, the tears now are only usually when they're leaving their friends to go home Don't know if this helps, but just wanted to say you only feel like this because you're a great mum Hopefulx

Thanks girls, she goes again tomorrow and hubby and I have decided to give it til the end of the month and see where we are then. Winegirl - my bub is 18 months, hope this is just a phase she's going through, she's pretty clingy at home too and her poor daddy doesn't get a look in sometimes! I did kind of sneak in the other day and managed to have a couple of minutes without either staff or bub seeing me, (Miss Marple would be proud!) but saw nothing incriminating! I do wonder if it's just that she obviously doesn't get the one to one she gets at home, plus there are other screaming brats there in comparison to our (relatively) quiet house! This key worker gives off a bit of a 'can't be arsed' vibe, maybe she was having an 'off' day but you know how you sometimes you just don't 'take' to someone? As for phoning, I was just made to feel I was wasting her time..there's a lot of sighing that goes on!! I'm going to keep phoning if I feel it's needed though! Thanks for reassuring me that I'm not neurotic..except I have a confession....I'm COMPLETELY neurotic!!! xxxxxx

I was exactly the same with my little one at nursery, think at the start i was on the phone to them 3 times a day. Now i never think to call! I think it prob is a bit of a phase with her, my little one is clingy if someone even comes to the house and cries! Previously she was the exact opposite, i think they are just starting to realise that mummy is seperate and they just dont want to be away from you.
Hope she settles soon hun x

Well fingers crossed girls, yesterday she didn't cry too much when I dropped her off and she stopped pretty much as soon as I left the room. Have decided her key worker is actually ok, she's quite quiet and I think I was mistaking that for being a bitch! Oops! Plus I'm liking my me time (I work nights so I use her 3 afternoons at nursery to catch up on housework, sleep, watch Jeremy Kyle etc!!) Hope it continues to go well! xx

Ring them as much as you like! Try to avoid mealtimes but otherwise don't worry about it. I still call if R has been a bit funny about going
Know what you mean about the key worker though. I can't stand one of C's (well was hers before she started school) Right moody mare who just gives off the stroppy teenager sort of vibe
