This is driving me mad. Just before school broke up Joey got sent home with a couple of tiny head lice. I checked Jason when he got home (complete with a newsletter from the school saying that there has been an out break of nits) and he was swarming in them I can't believe I hadn't seen them before. Anyway I had already been recommeneded lyclear from Joeys school and so smothered all of us in the stuff. I have been wet combing religiously 2-3 times a day and was finally confident they had gone. I was wrong, they just keep on coming back I can't keep covering the whole family in this awfal stuff everyday and I know that once they go back to school its going to be even harder to keep them at bay. So what now Please anybody who has any ideas on what I might have around the house to cure head lice and to keep them away I need to know so desperatly. Me and the kids are covered with bites and can't stop itching. And its costing me a fortune in foul smelling chemicals that don't work anyway. I don't want to keep putting chemicals on the kids hair.

For a start stop covering yourself in chemicals as most of them dont work nowadays as the lice have become immune to them. If you wash then condition hair every 2 days then you should keep it from getting a hold. You can get a great comb that gets eggs out too, will find the website later for you. A few drops of tea trea oil in shampoo/conditioner helps as its a natural repellant. I think lice are loving it just lately due to all the lovely heads they get to live on lol, we have had problems on and off for years too. You may still get them from the school etc but if you give everyone a good comb every 2 days then you will be breaking the cycle. Liz x

Thanks Liz.
The last thing I want to do is keep putting chemicals on anyway. I do have a couple of good combs already that get eggs out (the ones in the kits are never any good). I have to admit though I thought that lice liked clean hair? so washing every couple of days was something I hadn't been doing.
My mum has picked up a tea tree oil shampoo for us and a tea tree repellant to, so I'm hoping that will be suffient. What do youu think?
Also am I right in thinking they don't live long once they come off the head? ie. do I have to keep washing bedding more than usual or is that not needed?

Hi,
Just to let you know i had a prob with my daughter for a while. I used the chemical stuff and didnt work then got told to use the comb and the tee tree shampoo and conditioner and comb through thoroughly every day on top of using the conditionor every other day till got rid of them then wash the hair every other day after that with shampoo nad conditioner not so often to keep up on the treatment really. This worked forme the chemical stuff is rubbish really. Sharon

They do need the scalp to live - but washing the bedding is ggod until they dissapear as they will be dead, but around if you understand me. ?
My daughter I now put her hair in bunches for school. But not much good for boys. With my oldest now 13 he had his hair clippered off a lot. Luckily so did David Beckham at the time. I couldn't believe it one day when i found lots in my son's hair they do breeed fast. Now with my daughter I use tea tree shamppo and my salon conditioner - hepls get rid of tangles too. But to get rid of them I found the natural products were good based on tea tree you can get them in kits at the supermarket or chemist and the repellent natural sprays. sort of thicker version of the tea tre shampoos with other herbs and the comb method too.
Gosh this mother hood is hard work. Now my son is at high school no nits!!! But dd is only 5 so more years to come and then we can all get them like you say?? Aweful but can be done. Good luck bless you...
