Hi all, Wondered if anyone had a baby with milk intolerence? My Little girl was diagnosed with eczema at 8 weeks, although her skin is dry and I have to moisturise it 4 times a day (at Least) the eczema only flares up because of her itching or rubbing. I also hae to put socks on her hands to moisturise her, change her nappy or change her as she scratches her self really bad. Apart from the rash/eczema she still vomits her milk, suffers from tummy aches, Constantly moody and cries, sleeps a lot and generally doesn't seem right. I wondered if anyone had a baby with a milk allergy and what symptoms they had....I am sure it is a milk allergy as it also runs in my husbands family but until recently my gp or health visitor kept fobbing me. Eventually got n appointment to see a paediatrician in two weeks so hopefully he can sort this out once and for all. Would be greatful of any comments Thanks Anita xx

Hi Anita,
My youngest has a dairy intolerence which was diagnosed when she was about 5 weeks old. It started with her vomitting alot and we were told by the hospital that it was reflux for which they gave us Gaviscon to try to keep the feeds down. This resulted in her losing 2oz which doesn't sound alot but before that she'd been gaining 6-8oz a week. They then switched her to Rantidine which helped for a couple of weeks but then seemed to stop working. Eventually after she'd slipped from the 75th percentile to the 9th we were referred to a consultant who suggested a dairy free diet and Losec for the reflux. This has been great - well for her, not for me who is breastfeeding so also has to be diary free! She also needed Oilatum for her dry skin when I was having dairy but she doesn't suffer half as badly now and only has it in her daily bath maybe once or twice a week.
They suggested that every 3-4 weeks I try eating a little dairy to try to build up her strength but so far every time it's just resulted in a whinging baby who is sick about 18-24 hours after I eat the dairy! After this she then needs the Losec dosage doubled to twice a day too for about a week or so until the dairy leaves her system. Seems her allergy is definitely milk we're hopeful that she will grow out of it.
She's turned into a different baby once the medication and the diary free diet sorted things out for her so I hope you have the same success too. Be warned that some doctors will be quite dismissive of dairy allergies, our first paeds doctor was, but we got there in the end. You know your baby best so just keep stamping your foot til they listen. The only true test is to observe a dairy free diet for 3-4 weeks and then see if symptoms improve. If they do then try a little dairy and see if it has any effect.
Let us know how you get on. Love, Bobyn xxx
