I'm panicing!!!! One of the child minders at playgroup was saying today that the babay she looks after had worms! It is apparently really rife and easily passed amongst kids. It turns out they all had it, the whole family and the kids she minds. She then procceds to say that all our kids could have it too off of her ones. I think I actually feel sick. Steven has been scratching at his bottom, but I thought it was just a kid thing. I'm scratching all over at the thought of it!! What do I do? Help!

Hi Sarah
I have to say that it is not something I am looking forward to! But i am under the impression that unfortunately most kids get it at some point (and their parents). I know someone who's LO had it and passed it on to her and she said they were just prescribed some cream and it sorted it.
The worms arent actually as bas as you imagine and I am told you really cant see them, the best thing to do is try to stop scratching as this is how it is spread under fingernails.
If LO is scratching take him to docs asap just in case it is that and needs treating.
I know its not pleasant at all, but from what I am told it is nowhere near as bad as we imagine!
WG x

You can get medicine over the counter and in a family bottle.
Its just one tea spoon each then another 14 days later... Its for over two's only though. My daughter has had it recently and unfortunatley in girls it can go in the front too. I never saw any but was advised to treat as the school kept sending her home for scratching and she was so uncomfortable they can cry two. my son had it years ago. he is now 13 and he cried at night with it. I did speak to the doctor when I was worried it hadn't worked fast enough but she said give it a few days after the medicine. Had to keep her off school - she is 5.

Hows the worms hun?
My eldest had them when he was about 5 ish and I got some pink gooey stuff from the chemist. Mind you Sarah I don't think this medicine can be given to babies, do check first and let us know how you get on with your HV today. They will disappear on their own anyway if there's no scratching.

Well I reckon they might have gotten them off gails kids, well steven anyway. I've never actually seen any or anything but when I actually pay attention steven does scratch a little bit. I thought it was just a kid think but I'm a bit paranoid about it now. Even just thinking about the possibility that we have worms, makes me scratch all over lol
Let you know what the HV says xx

I've had a check in both poops now lol and no sign of anything. I think that means we're ok. The Hv said if I see any then we all get treated so I'm happy about that. Steven seems to have an awful sore bum just now. It could just be the transition from nappies tho. Is it a symptom to have a red bum hole (excuse the bluntness lol)? Yep WG its all to come to u too!!!! xxx
