Sorry to hear your LO has a cold, mine has a cold as well although he's a bit older than your daughter. Have you bee to the docs hun? I remember when my LO got his first cold and the doc gave me some nasal saline solution to wash out his nose and I also rubbed a wee bit of Vick's on a pillow on the side of his cot (just a tinsy bit - perhaps you can get a baby Vick's equivalent, but I used normal Vick's). I also have a vapouriser which I used and I gave him lots of water because he was off milk for a day or two.
Colds are always a worry when they are so young, but she will recover from it in a day or two/week hun. You could always ring up the gp clinic for some advice from the nurses or speak to the doc by telephone if you are worried.
Hugs

is she old enough to eat fruit? thats a good fluid source. other than that as long as she is still having plenty of milk she'll be ok not eating properly for a few days babies and children are pretty good knowing what there body needs when they are ill. medicines you can use are Tixylix Baby Syrup for the cough, Sudarub (if over 6 months), and Karvol decongestant capsules (from 3 months). these are all available in supermarkets and chemists. let us know how she gets on x

Hi Anita,
I think as long as she's drinking milk, like Caz said, she's probably getting enough liquid. You could try offering her some water on a spoon, and I have one of those dropper type things (sometimes come with medication), where you suck the water in and push it into their mouths, you could try this. I've tried it often with my LO and he's drank it no problem this way, although I'm lucky in that both my boys drink a lot of water.
Lovely weekend hun
Hugs

Thanks caz much appreciated and some good tips too. She has finally taken a little nap so finally she is getting rest....but i know she will be awake at 6.15pm for in the night garden. I've given up with the food she just isn't interested so have increased her bottles for now until she is a little better as she is drinking those ok (although has to stop every few seconds to breathe) xxxx

Hi anita,
Just a wee tip from what I did. I used to add a little formula to water to make it slightly milky when they wouldnt drink water.
My youngest is 8m too and he has the cold. My mum says to try to avoid wiping thier noses as we all know it makes them sore. She said rather use water and cotton wool, which I have been and putting on vaseline. Vaseline over the bride of her nose will also encourage it to run and help clear her a little. As will the karvol etc.
Hope she gets better and keep up the milk, she'll npt starve without solids for a week, milk will suffice for now. try not to worry too much, it'll soon be over.

Hi Anita,
Plug in Vapourisers are our godsend when the LOs get colds as they really do work to help clear the stuffiness. Also, Medised at night helps them get a good nights sleep and that's the best thing to help them recover quickly - and make sure you've got enough energy to look after them and offer sympathy the next day.
Hope your LO gets well soon. Love, Bobs xxx
