What do you do with your LOs whilst cooking? especially those who are under 2, who can't be entertained with the telly without supervision?
My LO is into everything and whilst I'm cooking, he's emptying cupboards or in the dustbin, or destroying something and I can't trust him to be in the living room alone. I sometimes put him in his cot, but don't like to leave him there for half hour or so whilst I cook.
Any suggestions, what do you do?

Hi Scarlet
I normally cook our evening dinner once my LO has gone to bed as it is so much easier. You could always put him in a highchair with books or colouring to do and you can see him at the same time.
He could also like you talking to him whilst you are hopefully able to cook the dinner. Depending on how big your kitchen is you could always put a play pen as well but my LO will not go in this anymore!!
I can't think of anything else at the minute although I might later - hope that might be of some help!

I have to admit i tend to wait till after 8pm when LO is in bed. Either that or she just has to toddle round the kitchen with me grabbing her every 30 seconds while she takes knives out of the drawer, cheese grater out of the cupboard etc.. (we only have a small kitchen...)

Hi Scarlet hun,
I have to say I leave steven to roam about the house while I'm cooking. I just pop back and forth to check, but he now is nearly 3. When he was younger I tened to either put him in his highchair while he ate his supper, or with some sort of distraction ie colouring. As littlelotty says you could also use a play pen. But steven promptly learned to climb out!
Another idea is stair gates. I did this with steven in out last house. We had our kitchen attached to a hallway. I put a gate on the kitchen door and one on the sitting roon, then closed the other doors. So he was effectively caged in the hall. If yours is anything like ours it will have very little in it and worked as an exciting play house, as I put diff toys in it.
My friend actually uses one of those back carriers for walking. her toddler is a nightmare, shes into everything, climbs out of everything, destroys everything, this is the kid that climbs out of her cot in the night and raids drawers and cupboards, then falls asleep on the floor! She cant put natasha down without a lead lol.
Hope you think of something xx

Thanks ladies, Sarah you have described my LO to a tee, sounds just like your friends daughter, he's a house wrecker, and I couldn't leave him in the living room alone, he's touching plug sockets and ringing the police up on the telephone. I have to have him in the kitchen with me or in the cot, I have no choice really. As for cooking later, I can't really, as my hubby comes home between 7-8pm and wants his dinner on the table when he comes in...and we all eat evening dinner at this time, including my LO who goes to bed about 9:30pm. Gonna have to do the high chair in the kitchen with crayons and see if this works thanks Littlelotty. I'm hoping in another 6 months or so, things will be different...but I don't hold my breath as he's a little hooligan, totally different to my other one. xxxx

Hi Scarlet
Don't forget the older your LO gets the earlier he will probably go to bed anyway, My LO (I know I'm lucky) but goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps until 7am! So once in bed I then cook the dinner.
Hope the highchair works!!!
Take Care

Oooh might try that highchair in the kitchen thing myself! She is not a fan of being strapped in to things but maybe the crayons might sway it...

So stressful isn't it - I found this too with my second, little boy, - glad it wasn't just mex Better now, but he's still a bit of an ankle biter and follows me round (sweet really , but annoying when cooking! ) x
