Hi Ladies
Just had the IUD fitted (non-hormone type) and now I am a bit worried because I know periods get heavier but I also googled (bad idea) and read that PMT gets worse and with this illness thats the last thing I need.
Anyone get any stories to reassure me?

I've got the coil too but the IUS not IUD.
No problems with it at all and it's stopped my periods - bonus. I was put off the IUD by the warning of heavier periods and worse PMT to be honest.

Hi Cokey
I was fitted with the IUD coil and have done since my LO was 6 weeks old - she is now 19 months. I have to be honest and the first 6 months were heavier periods but if you can ride this through they get back to normal. There was many times when I thought I am going to have this taken out but didnt and I havent had any problems. It is hard to know if PMT got worse as I developed PND and I dont know what came first!! See how it goes and if you struggle with it you can always change it.
The one bonus with coils is that you dont have to remember to take anything such as pill etc and you forget it is there!
Take Care

Thanks for the replies ladies.
I am feeling better about it now. I decided to finish what I had started and googled some more and only found 2 stories of worse PMT. I know google and if it were a major problem there would be dozens of forum entries. Also everyone I have spoken to said periods got heavier but PMT didnt worsen. I am not bothered about heavy periods. Mine are so light at the moment, it will be just like the old days.
I just panicked, like you do.
Hope you are okay LL.

Sorry for being thick guys but I have thought about having the coil fitted but am a bit nervous about the idea. What is the difference between IUS and IUD??

The IUS releases small amounts of progesterone, makes your periods lighter and sometimes makes them disappear altogether (this has happened with me - bonus!)
The IUD doesn't release hormones but makes periods heavier so isn't recommended of you already have heavy periods.
There are more differences but that's all I can remember without googling x
