Hi All,
Don't know if anyone else has seen the new 'Psychologies' Magazine that is just out? It has an article about what is called 'Taboo thinking' in it and i found it very interesting and quite amazing too. Basically it is saying that most people get these thoughts - which can be anything from 'oh i wonder what its like to jump out of the car window whilst its moving' to 'i could squeeze this baby til it hurts', that kind of thing and apparently its a normal phenomena that just never gets talked about!!! There are steps to help you overcome the fears brought on by having these 'taboo thoughts' and also ordinary women talking about their own experiences of it. The magazine is online but i'm not quite sure if you can read the articles on there.
I thought it was interesting and related to PNI cos alot of the 'dreaded thoughts' i had in the early stages still kept occuring later on (and still do) even though i consider myself recovered from PNI. I wondered what others thoughts are on this if you have read the article!

Hi
Oddly I was driving down a road parralel with the river trent the other morning (as i do evryday) and had a thought about stopping the car, getting out and jumping into the trent! I analysed it for a whil afterwards and started to remember other thoughts I had had like this before PNI - even as a child. It didnt bother me at all, and I think I have done things on and off like that my whole life...

Glad some of you have responded to this post, the article was really an eye-opener!!! up until i read it i thought that maybe i hadn't fully recovered from depression/pni but this has made me see that these taboo thoughts are 'normal' to a degree!!! it really put my mind at ease and amazingly because i have 'accepted' the thoughts i'm not noticing them as frequently as before! which is a point the article makes.
Tabbysmum - if you have any trouble getting hold of it, let me know cos i could let you borrow my copy, although i would like it back (as i keep these mags), but i don't mind you borrowing it, just let me know.

Hi Sarah,
Sounds like an interesting article. I read that everyone has these thoughts as well, what differs from us with A & D is the over-analysis we do when we get these thoughts, which causes the anxiety. I rememebr having loads of these thoughts myself before PNI and dismissed them as daft. Even now I am well,I get odd thoughts as well, but don't give them a second thought now. Would love to read the article if it's online

Hi Scarlet,
Yeah it is very interesting, don't think its online though?? (although not sure). Its funny how we dismiss them when we are 'well' but like you say its the over-analysis that makes things worse, i know i have been particularly bad for that in the past although not so much now.

Yeah it is - found this bit interesting...
‘It is not that magical thinkers totally believe in their magic. They don’t. They do, however, experience serious doubts and need encouragement to take the risks necessary to see that their beliefs aren’t justified.’(Penzel)

I can sort of see a link with EFT too in terms of word repetition etc.?
