Thank you so much for these threads. I have been thinking for a while about asking about this and why when we are not well and have all these awful feelings do we feel we have to hurt ourselves more. The things written here answer some of my questions. I have not cut myself [although I have thought about it], but I have hit my head a few times, its awful to say to say this that it feels like I am smashing some sense into it. I know it is a spur of the moment thing when everything seems so bad, I also somehow have been thinking that I am a bad person and if I hurt myself it will serve me right. I dont understand why I think these things. I know really that hurting myself will not help and I thik reading some of these threads have helped me.

Hi Dot
Welcome to the site x I am so glad that this new section has helped you. I have a bit of info myself on self harm from a time when I studied it and am gonna get it typed up and posted in this section also I think. There dont seem to many answers as to why people self harm, but I think for people to share their experiences it really helps to get some sort of understanding.
Please come back and talk to us anytime, the ladies here are fantastically supportive.
Love
WG xx

Hi Dot,
Glad you've found this section helpful - but am sorry to hear you've been suffering too.
I'm a recovered s/harmer, and could understand what you wrote here:
I know it is a spur of the moment thing when everything seems so bad, I also somehow have been thinking that I am a bad person and if I hurt myself it will serve me right. I dont understand why I think these things.
I think for some it also gives a release from inner pain and frustration ..
Hope you feel you can come back and talk about this any time here.
Hopefulx

Hi Dot Im glad youve found this place helpful, I have too. Im no expert on the reasonings or anything but I know how it feels and would like to say what I said on one of my posts "If I could go back to the first time I cut and choose a different path I would" - Im so glad you've recognised this before you've crossed that line. You have a chance to get the help you need now and I really hope you embrace that help to get better. Ive been avoiding changing in front of anyone for so long now, Im scared my sons see my stitches. It is a horrible way to feel about yourself once you've done it and youre right it wont help - i dont wish that on you. Instead of banging your head why dont you put some rocking music on and have a total freakout dance on your own - go wild, jump up and down, sing at the top of your voice and then have a good laugh at what you must look like lol. Like I say no expert or anything, just hope reading these posts helps you take the right path. Take care Dot, hope you're ok. Luv bean x

I had not expected anyone to answer me, so it was a surprise to find that people have talked to me about this. I don't think I feel quite so frightened about it all at the moment. It had been such a worry to me, and I was wanting to know why I was like this and why I felt that hurting myself was going to sort things. I suppose I don't really want to b e here, and clouting my head is all I can manage to do. I suppose I am a coward. It hurts and shakes me up. I did it today. I am OK most of the time, and donmt do it often. I am Full of pills and seeing people who think they are helping. But it frightens me when it all gets too much sometimes.
Thank you bean for coming back to see if I was OK. I hope you are alright.
