My LO's daytime naps are a nightmare at the moment. She normally goes down at 11am till 1pm and then has her lunch but for the past week she just will not sleep. She is up there talking, laughing, whinging, throwing toys around, generally anything but kipping.
I don't know what to do really, cos without a nap she is a nightmare by 4pm. Think I might have to try lunch then a nap - but that then really restricts my days - I know most kids have afternoon naps so how do people work it with going out and getting stuff done?!
Help!

How old is she again now Nicola??
My LO didnt nap and getting stuff done was really hard. But we got through it.. Apparently as they get older it is VERY common for them to change naps from before lunch to after lunch - I remember the MW telling me about it once...

That was my LO all over. Still is! We get good days and bad days with her without naps, but i figure if they sleep ok at night its worth putting up with the daytime antics!!

Mine were the same - it was like a painful transition. With my 1st she had naps till she was 3, second we stopped him around 1 1/2 - 2 as he just didn't sleep at night. Both to bed now by 7.30 - it gets easier xxx

Both had naps until they were about 3 - I'm gutted they still don't
It shifted from morning to afternoon on the first once she got to about 18 months x

Hi Nicola Sounds like she's shifting from having a longer morning nap to a shorter afternoon one..sorry!! I remember my LO having all sorts of shenanigans before she settled into a regular afternoon sleep...but then it was fab..she slept from 2pm til 3pm pretty much on the dot every day and I'm sure taht was about the 18 month mark, she'll be 3 next month and is starting to get rid of her nap..what a nightmare by teatime! Once your LO has decided what she's up to then life should get a bit easier..sorry that doesn't help in the meantime! xx

Ok yes am finding that afternoon naps are becoming favourable.
She had lunch today at half twelve and then went down for an hour, even though I had visitors arrive at that time, which usually means she would not sleep for being so nosy, but she went off quite quickly and surprised me.
So I will keep to that for a while, lunch and then a little kip, be it at home or in the car on the way to somewhere....
Thanks for your messages though, good to see it is quite normal for it all to change around at this age!

Hi Nicola Something I tried with my LO was trying to 'take control' of her naps! Now if you ever met her then you'd know how foolish that was but it did actually work! I would try to keep her up all morning (no car journeys if possible as the car would put her straight to sleep) then fill her up with a carb heavy lunch and try to get her off to sleep, after about a week it seemed to 'train' her (for want of a better word) to have an afternoon nap. Might be worth a try xx

LOL a small bag of buttons seems to do the same job too..if you can deal with the initial sugar high then she will always crash eventually!! God I sound terrible..I don't ALWAYS want her asleep.....honest!! xx
