Because I was so isolated from other Mums and babies, I didn’t know that other people were stopping breastfeeding and felt no pressure to do so myself. When I was out with my baby boy, I would psyche myself up for any confrontation – “What am I supposed to do? He’s hungry!” but nobody ever had a go at me for breastfeeding. Maybe I just wasn't out very often!
Also, my OH was working away and was just home at weekends. In spite of the fact that this did really affect me. It also helped me to keep breastfeeding. As a friend of mine said at the time – what would be the point of bottle-feeding, it’s still you that will have to get up in the night for every feed, you might as well breastfeed and cut out the hassle of preparing bottles in the night.
I just wanted to post this, because PNI is so awful, but for me I have realised that there was at least one positive from it. The fact that I did breastfeed my baby boy. If I hadn't done that then second time around with my baby girl I would have given up a lot sooner.
