HELP!!!
My new baby is two months old and until a few days ago my 2 year old toddler seemed to be doing ok with him - she got a bit clingy to start with but that seemed to be it.
However, few days ago she suddenly wanted HIS dummy and not hers, she tried climbing into the bouncer and worst of all she has started throwing whopping tantrums at bedtime. She usually goes to bed very happily and just settles herself but the past three mights we have had screaming, shouting, throwing toys, kicking doors and gates for up to an hour before she calms herself down and gets into bed and konks out.
It seems like a delayed reaction to baby's arrival?? Can that happen? What should we do - anyone else had this?
SO far, we have been doing controlled crying like when she was little and after an hour she eventually settles. When she wakes in the night we do the same thing, controlled crying again (but she is so much louder these days!) and she again puts herself back to bed in the end.....
She is absolutely fine during the day, happy, busy, energetic, eating fine...oh actually she has developed a 'cough' and got herself retching today after her dinner but not bringing anything up and it 'stopped' once she got distracted.....?
Anyone?
xx

Well I am most DEFINATELY no child expert, but to throw something in the mix here, could it be a stage she is going through that is not connected with your new baby?
I say this because my little girl has been through similar various things at different times - including these massive tantrums at bedtimes. Been fine for months then suddenly a spell of something like that...
Just a thought?
Sorry not much help, i really am useless when it comes to kids (hence only having the one!)

Thanks WG - reassuring we are not the only ones who have experienced this, even without a sibling thrown into the mix. It seems she has just 'decided' she doesn't want to go to bed anymore.....last night we had only half an hour of it and tonight only ten mins so the controlled crying seems to be working...for now! It is just heartbreaking hearing her screaming and chucking herself around the room. Also breaks my heart that she then 'puts herself to bed' - I love tucking her in and saying night on a happy note.... Yes it could well be just a phase...you think you have it sussed and then they change thier minds xx Am taking baby to clinic on Tuesday for weighing so I might talk to a HV while am there as well about her.
