I'm 5.5 months in and still have racing thoughts, anxiety and depression I'm on 20 generic prozac for 4 months so not sure if my meds aren't working, I know I feel a but better I was in a living hell every moment was dreadful but still feel rubbish this is the worst thing my own mind torments me. Such a strange illness and I'm so lucky to have a beautiful sweet baby boy I just want to enjoy this time but pni is pricing difficult to shake off. I don't find dr or talking therapies to be that supportive, is anyone recovered how long did it take? What mg of meds are people on? Dr gave me genetic prozac even think read sertraline was better if u are breastfeeding he seemed to dismiss that so confused xx

Hi Gem! I've been on 10mg of Cipralex (Lexapro) since Oct 1 and have noticed an improvement, although it's still very up and down. I definitely feel less depressed and hopeless than I did before. And a friend of mine works for a drug company and said that the generic versions actually can have significant differences and not be as effective so I always ask for the brand name, even though it's more expensive. I know some of my patients also have found it helpful to add Wellbutrin to enhance the ad. It doesn't sound like you have a very supportive (or possibly even knowledgeable) doctor. Is there any way of seeing someone else? And I find talking it out with friends and my therapist to be really helpful. Even just to hear that they all feel certain that this is temporary. And as I mentioned in my thread you might find that getting on all those vitamins makes a big difference. Oh and I get out for at least an hour walk a day and when I don't, I definitely feel the effects. I think that overall we're unfortunately still going to have these crazy thoughts but hopefully over time our belief in them keeps lessening more and more. I'm still so scared that I'll never feel better again but that seems to be such a common thought that that gives me hope too.

And I do remember in the year or so after having my now 4 yr old son that I couldn't watch or hear about anything that involved a child being hurt in any way or it would give me this unbelievable feeling of dread and sadness and that eventually passed. I do think that this extra alertness and hypervigilance was adaptive when we were cave people. It's hair being misdirected now!

Oh! And one more thing I was thinking about. SSRI's inhibit reuptake of serontonin (meaning it stays in the synapse longer), they don't create serotonin. So unless we're eating well and providing the building blocks for our bodies to create it then I think the medication would be less effective. So lots of protein, good carbs, and good fats!

Hello
I'm sorry you haven't seen much improvement since being in meds. Would you consider changing your Dr ? Is there another one at ur surgery that might suppirt you better. I'm not an expert at all but I would have expected to see a fair amount of improvements after nearly 6 months in and your Dr should take you seriously if that's not the case.
A good Dr can make a huge difference so really do consider this. Therapy is thecsame - a therapist who you click with who gives you the right suppirt also will help you come on in leaps and bounds in terms of your recovery.
Sometimes lifestyle changes can give you the lift you need. For instance exercise gave me a massive lift . Also finding time to do things just for you can be a great distraction and make you feel more like an individual as opposed to just a mum .
Keep talking x

Thank you ladies, great to hear from you. Going to go back to Dr on Friday going to the one that seems the best of them so far. Thanks for the support feeling a bit better think I had a few bad days and felt I was back at square 1 but feeling stronger again. I've been on 20 mg generic prozac for 4 months, I have seen improvements but it is up and down think I got scared of the last down. Going back and asking if I can be put on actual prozac or increase. I'm totally with you on the eating well I do try tho I eat some rubbish too but I'm going to try further to improve and get some magnesesm suppliments. Thanks ladies. Found exercise really helps but hard to keep doing it but certainly helps if I do xx

I imagine heightened symptoms initially make sense. Hopefully things will calm down over the next week . Has insomnia always been a feature for you with Prozac? X
