One of our members posted these recovery tips for PNI and bi polar ! I think they make great reading and are very useful. Thanks BF!
Here is a list of keeping mental health problems under control.
1. Sleep is VERY important. Prioristise it. Plan it. Do things to promote it.
2. Take your medication as you are suppose to and dont overuse addictive medications.
3. Alcohol in small amounts not often and not during a crisis. And NO illegal drugs EVER.
4. Be honest and open to everyone. If someone judges you or is negative about your illness then you know not to trust them and to avoid them.
5. Express your sexuality. Sex is good but take care of how you look, take pride in your appearance and recoginise it is important. If you look good clean and fresh you'll feel better.
6. Appriciate and cherish people who love you.
7. Find a hobby or intrest that captivates your imagination and think, do plan and enjoy.
8. Always remember that you will come out of dark times.
9. Be honest about your illness to yourself.
10. Be realistic, dont set goals to high.
11. Be sensible with money and always have a back up plan.
12. Eat regually, eat healthy food, enjoy food.
13. Move. I mean "excercise" but if your unfit like me. Do a short walk. Get a bit of fresh air.
14. Take care of yoyr home. If it is a shit tip you will feel shit. You will always feel better if it is clean, fresh, tidy and homely.
15. Get support. A. Pratically with housework, childcare, financially etc.
B. Emotionally. Counselling, a CPN, a helpline, talking to people, writing etc.
16. Learn knew skills.
17. Remember your achievements.
18 BElieve you can achieve your hopes and dreams.
19. Do nice things for you.
20. Do nice things as a family or in groups of friends and MAKE HAPPY MEMORIES.
