Hi everyone,
I'm after some advice if poss.
My sister had her son 5 years ago at 19 and has been ill with PNI ever since. She never really bonded with him and our mum looked after him for months.
Long story with lots of things in between but her PNI has been present to different extents all this time.
She has been on numerous different antidepressants(none of which do anything), seen 2 counsellors who just said she's too self critical and that she doesn't really need further input after 2-3 sessions and she's getting worse...expressing that she doesn't see the point of living.
She's just finished a degree successfully with a lot of anxiety and tears throughout but instead of being proud of herself she's berating herself for only getting a 2:1 and not a 1st!!! She is in a horrendous cycle of eating only caffeine and sugar and refuses to take any of the vitamin pills she's been given by the doctor (as she's coeliac). She's now a little overweight and miserable because she can't fit in her clothes but won't exercise and can't break her sugar and caffeine addiction. I suspect she's horrendously deficient in lots of vitamins which won't be helping her energy levels.
I've been round and round suggesting things, helping out and praising her and telling her how well she's doing but she just seems to be her own worst enemy at the moment and now she's picking fights with me and the rest of the family and pushing us away because she's so low and I just don't know what to do??
I've suffered very badly with depression myself previously so I understand how she feels but I'm now just completely at a loss as to what to suggest next. She just seems intent on trying to distance herself from us all and I'm a little worried about her safety and my nephew seeing all this. she has lots of help with her son...my mum has him most Friday and Saturday nights so he's with her most of the weekend and she's still with his dad but I feel he's not a great influence on her as he is also quite low in mood.
Does anyone have any advice at all???
