Went round the shops in town today with LO and my mum and got increasingly pissed off throughout the afternoon. Thought I would start this thread to see if it just my town that this happens in but why do people insist on walking in front of buggies? !!!! Honestly if I run you over it will hurt you more than it will me or my LO! AND in shops some people look at you as if it is a major crime to be taking up room with your buggy - if it was a wheelchair people would gladly move out of the way but buggies - oh no, that's your problem luv...... Plus my mum likes to push the buggy when we are out which is fine, but she is not as skilled at negotiating the aisles and STUPID people as I am, so it takes longer to do anything and I feel so bad when people give her looks etc. I can deal with it myself and am increasingly likely to say something, but feel bad for her. Then I feel bad about saying I will push it cos it might make her feel I think I can't trust her with it. AAAAGGGGHHHH!!! Is it just my PNI making me irritable or does this happen to other people too?! nicola1712

lol no its an incredibly well known phenomenon hun:) if people didnt move out of my way, then technically they waive their right to complain about being battered by the wheels and/or shopping bags attached to said buggy at the time of injury as for other people trying to steer the buggy it used to drive me mad ("i could do it so much easier" i used to think) BUT they are only trying to help, so try to grin and bear it if you can, unless it becomes too much in which case dont worry about saying something. she is your mum after all hun xx

Me too!
Funny thing is that before having my LO, I was really `anti buggies' and used to curse women pushing them round town acting as though they owned the pavement!
Now I get really irate when people look all huffy at me tring to navigate the push chair with the 10 carrier bags, changing bag etc around. And I find people can be really rude about it too! One woman had a go at me in Hotel Chocolat as I was blocking the till with the pushchair and i remember screaming at her `what would you like me to do with it? Shove it up my f****** a***!' I went down a treat in there that day i tell you!
Glad its not just me x

LOL lots! Thanks! That has really cheered me up after today - I have to admit I used to get huffy too before having my LO but am discovering that having a child opens your eyes up to a whole lot of new things including buggies!
Can't believe you actually said that though ;D So nearly said to the woman today - who huffed at me for asking her to move out of the way of the parking ticket machine - that it would hurt her a lot more than me if I rammed her with it but just couldn't. Will next time though!
Yeah I kinda bit my tongue with my mum cos the more practice she gets the better she will get too - she isn't backward in coming forward like me so god help em when she is more confident!
Glad not just my town then.....

I bet if we keep this thread up we will see there are lots more like us! Actually on Saturday I went into a pound shop where i live with the pushchair and there were some baskets of seeds stacked very unsafely on the floor, the shop is a nightmare for navigation and no room for people really let alone a pushchair! Anyeay i caught these baskets of seeds with a wheel on the buggy and they went EVERYWHERE. I immediatley apologised to the girl on the till and got on the floor to put them back in the baskets when she said `they have to go in order of seed type in to the relevant baskets, cabbages, pansies etc...' I asked if she was taking the p*** (there were hundreds of them) and she said she wasnt - so I threw them back on the floor and walked out.
Wont be going back again

Have to admit I don't use the buggy anymore but yes it certainly is a big problem. More so when you have the delights of a double buggy that steers like a tank. I taught my 2 to stick their legs out when we went into the market so they ended up kicking anyone in the way, then I could innocently apologies for them and say how daunting it is for them to be stuck so low to the ground with people walking all over them like door mats.

Now there's an idea! As soon as she is big enough I will be teaching her that too. Liked the seeds story too - not surprised you left them to it - oh well they probably needed something to do all afternoon! Yeah I find that some shops leave stuff kinda mid aisle (especially rubbish when they are re stocking...) and I am afraid I just run over it most times cos I think it is their fault for leaving it there. The buggy pushes stuff to one side for me very well too! A friend of mine told me her little boy used to pick stuff up off the shelves of shops that had narrow aisles and when she got home she spent half her life working out which shop they came from and taking it all back apologetically. She said there was just one thing she never worked out and couldn't take back but he didn't choose well! Will be great if more people leave their stories on this too cos it helps cheer me up and realise we all have these issues nicola

Thought about you yesterday when i tried to get into a coffee shop with buggy and the only table was at the back of the cafe. Tried to navigate to the table but people were sat in the middle of the aisles and when i said excuse me so many of them were frowning at having to move for me! Ran over one guys toes (accidently on purpose)

Good idea too! Went into one cafe the other day and there was only one table at the back free too, so I gave up and ended up sitting on some sofas with a smaller table but it worked out much better cos was more comfy and mean LO could sit on the sofas too (she wrecked them with all her food droppings but hey ho!) Tried to explain to DH about my troubles with the buggy today and he just said I wasn't patient enough Hasn't got a clue - if he was doing it day in day out then it would be different and he would probably be writing to the council to complain! But no I am just too impatient...... xxx

Had it again today but am calmer now cos thought of this thread when was about to lose it! Was in Mothercare with my mum who bless her is getting better with buggy now - slowly but surely! I was busy looking at spoons and bowls (with buggy) when this lady (without buggy) wanted to look too and aisle not really big enough to turn buggy round so I can only go forwards or backwards. Lady gets the hump cos I am in her way and she can't WAIT five mins for me to choose and get out of the way. She even tutted cos buggy was in the way - YOU ARE IN MOTHERCARE LUV!!! So I gritted my teeth and apologised for bringing a buggy into Mothercare of all places Funnily enough she apologised and backed off...

I've just read this thread and and I am cracking up. I especially like WG's retort to the stroppy person in Hotel Chocolat. That will certainly be going into my reportoire of witty comments when in a bad bloody mood around town!

LOL! Fancy getting mardy about a buggy in Mothercare! Could possibly understand it if you were in Laura Ashle or something, but Mothercare! What do you expect!
I took LO on wednesday into the doctors surgery and upset a guy who was trying to push in at the reeption desk. Though admittedly i did use the buggy as a tool to block the rude git off which really did not go down well!

See they can be useful!
You're lucky though my doctors surgery don't let you take buggies in at all - you have to leave it in the buggy park outside and woe betide you if you try and enter with it!!

There were three of us with buggies going round a small Sainsburys this morning trying to keep together - it was eventful to say the least!!
