HI Behappy
I dont have any experience of this one either, but i do know that the symptoms you describe can be quite common side effects of most antid's that tend to ease after a couple of weeks. Of course if you have any concern then you must contact your doctor, but i would imagine that this is just your body getting used to the drug and it should ease off.

Hiya behappy
I took dosulepin for 15 yrs non stop. But I had had them for a depression problem, before the birth when PNI started. They were my life saver. The first one made me feel really odd then that settled. They slept me, they improved my mood and let me lead a reasonable life. I easily use to ups and down the dose when adviced according to my mood.
In a way I wish I could still take these as I trusted them.
They did make me thristy all the time. You wake with no spit in your mouth what so ever, and your eyes may feel dry. The only beware I ahve is ..... Because I was thirsty all the time I felt I needed to keep sipping a drink all the time. And I am not a water drinker so I use to drink diet coke. I got problems with acid erosion of my teeth.
I always woke to attend to my baby, I had no problems with that and they helped me get back to sleep afterwards, but in the mornings I found it hard to wake up and get going. But once I was up, I was fine. It also depends on the dose how the affects are, and of course new meds take a while for us to get use to.
What dose are you on?
Be brave and give them a go. PM me if you need a chat.

Hi Jay,
Thankyou so much for your reply. It's nice knowing someone else has been on them. I've been on half a tablet for 2 nights now and i'm going to take a whole tablet tonight (75mg) but thats just to start with, they think i'll prob need to go up to 225mg.
The past 2 nights though i have slept alot better which is good, but having difficulty getting out of bed in the morning, so which is a bit like you, so at least i know it know it's not just me, ha.
Thanx once again, hope your ok

Hiya
I did get up to 225mg, but that was at the time that they were not working for me anymore . You might find that you balance out on a much much lower dose, and are able to manage on that, and be ok. When you read up on dosulepin they talk about people taking the high dose when in hospital. 225mg is the top end. Don't forget these do take about 4-6 weeks to kick in depression wise, it seems like a long time I know. But they do help with sleep quite quickly.
Good luck with them. Jay x

Hi Behappy
Getting decent sleep in itself will help with the PNI! It sounds odd but i really do believe that lack of sleep exaggerates PNI symptoms. Best of luck with your appointment for Tuesday, let us know how it goes??

Hi Behappy, I have been on Dosulepin since Nov. 25mg to start with, then 75mg since Dec. They are the best thing in the world and have tunred my life around.
Yes they do make you feel dizzy, hungover for a while when you start taking them. I think that feeling lasted about 3-4 weeks - although eased each day. As they are meant to help with sleep (one of my main probs was not being able to sleep even though shattered), they do tend to knock you out and give you that hangover feeling.
If at all possible, see if you can get a bit of extra help first thing. For that 3 week period I used to ask my hub to get up with baby and just give me a few minutes to 'come round' when I woke up. It is worth that few weeks in the end.
Please keep in touch, it is good to know someone else is on these meds as they don't seem to be commonly used anymore.
Take care
Rachel

Behappy, Just re-read your threads. 225mg sounds like an awful lot! I had really sever depression between Dec and Jan and my doc still felt that 75mg was enough. You have to give it a while to work. Don't let doc up the dose until you have had a good month or 6 weeks on 75mg. It will work I am sure.

Hi Rachel Will def keep in touch. I'm glad that someone else is on these MEDs now apart from me. ;D. My husbands out and at work early in the mornings but when he's off he does get up with LO first thing so that gives me chance to wake up, even though i still steal another 15mins or so sleep, ha. Us mums need it.... Got doctors tmrw so will discuss then. It's not my usual Doctor so i dout she will up the meds anyway. But will let you know how it goes. Really nice chatting to you Rachel. Take care Behappy xx xx
